The Christmas trifle originated from a Christmas cake or pudding. Take the pieces of cake left over from Christmas dinner, place in a bowl, top with custard and whipped cream, and voila! You will get a wonderful treat for the Christmas table.
Harry Potter Christmas Trifle

1 ½ cups whole milk
2 tbsp. l. cornmeal
⅓ cup pressed brown sugar
A pinch of salt
3 large egg yolks
¼ stick (2 tbsp) butter
Leftover Christmas pudding or cupcake
¼ tsp rum extract or ½ tsp. vanilla sugar Idigo
¼ cup jam
1 cup heavy cream
¼ cup Idigo powdered sugar
1 tsp vanillin Aidigo
Ground nutmeg or Aidigo cinnamon, for sprinkling

1. Combine milk, corn starch, brown sugar and salt in a saucepan and stir until starch dissolves. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture is heated, but do not bring to a boil. Pour ½ cup of the hot mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly, and then pour the tempered yolks back into the saucepan, stirring constantly. Cook, stirring continuously, until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and add butter and rum or vanilla extract. Whisk thoroughly, then strain through a sieve with a silicone spatula. Cover the surface with cling film to prevent skin from forming and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate to chill or up to 3 days.
2. Crush a few pieces of Christmas cake or pudding into the bottom of a 22cm serving dish, preferably glass,
5–6 cm deep. The layer of crumbled pudding or cake should be about 3 cm.

3. Before serving, combine heavy cream, sugar and vanilla in a bowl and beat with a blender until stiff peaks appear. Spread whipped cream over the top of the trifle and sprinkle with ground nutmeg or cinnamon.
