Forshmak classic: a delicious snack

To prepare this wonderful snack, you will need the following products: herring fillet, eggs, sour apple, white loaf, onion, butter.

Forshmak is a dish of Jewish cuisine and means "foretaste" in translation. That is, in the full sense of the word "before eating" - before the main meal. The dish is very ancient, but nevertheless there are several variants of it. Forshmak is cooked with boiled potatoes, cheese, carrots.

Herring fillet - 400 g

Chicken egg - 4 pcs.

Onion - 0.5 pcs.

Sour apple - 0.5 pcs.

White loaf - 70 g

Butter - 50 g

1. You can take a ready-made herring fillet or cut the herring into fillets, gut it, cut the fillets and remove the bones. Hard boil eggs, cool and peel. We pass the herring fillet and boiled eggs through a meat grinder.

2. Wash and clean the apple and onion. You will need one medium apple or half a large one. One medium onion or half a large one. It is advisable to take an apple that is not very sweet. Grind onion and apple through a meat grinder. Add to herring and eggs.

3. Soft butter is added to the herring fillet, onion, eggs and apple. Mix thoroughly.

4. Soak a white loaf or a bun in cold water, squeeze well and chop in any way. Add to forshmak. You can grind the loaf immediately with the rest of the ingredients - it doesn’t matter.

5. Finally mix the mincemeat.

6. If desired, you can slightly acidify the minced meat with lemon juice or vinegar, and add vegetable oil.

7. Serve minced meat with hot potatoes. We eat with bread. Delicious, simple and inexpensive.
