Herring is a favorite fish of many, but more often in a salty version. I suggest baking herring with potatoes in the oven, it's no less delicious!

Fried herring is very tasty with dill, the main thing is not to feel sorry for it, but generously sprinkle it on almost ready herring in the pan. When baked, it is no less good, I bake it with potatoes, which I cut into pieces and sprinkle with herbs. And since I like a golden crust, before baking, I only lightly fry it, and then bring it to readiness in the oven along with potatoes.

Herring - 2 pcs.

Potato - 250 g

Vegetable oil - 2 tbsp.

Salt - to taste

Ground pepper - to taste

Lemon juice - 2 tbsp.

Lemon slices - 7-8 pcs.

1. Gut the herring, remove the gills, rinse under running water and dry. If there is caviar, we also leave it.

2. Salt and pepper the herring and caviar. Also sprinkle with dried thyme, just a little.

3. Wash the potato tubers and cut into four pieces. When the potatoes are young, they can be cooked with the skins on. Put the potatoes in a baking dish, salt, pepper, also sprinkle it with thyme and sprinkle with vegetable oil. We send the form to the oven and bake the potatoes until half cooked.

4. As I said above, before baking, I fry the fish only slightly - until a barely golden crust appears - in a preheated pan with vegetable oil. I also fry caviar, you should not bake it, otherwise it will become overdried.

5. Then cut the lemon into thin slices.

6. We put the herring carcasses in a mold for potatoes and lay lemon slices on top.

7. Bake the herring with potatoes in the oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes, until the fish and potatoes are fully cooked.

8. We take out the herring with potatoes from the oven and put it on a plate. Our Don herring is smaller than the Atlantic one, so we can safely take one fish for one serving. Serve piping hot on the table, fresh vegetables are a must!
