Mead has been prepared in Rus' since ancient times, with many different recipes created over the centuries. Initially, the drink only included honey, hops, water and yeast starter, later there were options with the addition of berries, fruits, tea and herbal infusions.
Preparing mead at home is as easy as pie. And today we will take on the simplest mead recipe, consisting of only 4 ingredients. To prepare mead at home, prepare the products according to the list.

Natural honey - 460 g
Water - 3500 ml
Hops - 10 g
Fresh yeast - 20 g

1. Mix water with honey in an enamel or stainless steel container, add hops and bring to a boil. Simmer the mixture for 2 hours. If the water boils away too much, add more to restore the original volume.
2. Let the liquid cool to 40 degrees. Then strain it from the hops into a glass container, such as a jar or a large bottle, add yeast. Close the neck with any elastic lid or rubber glove and leave to ferment at room temperature for 2.5-3 weeks.
3. After two weeks, the drink will already be quite intoxicating. In principle, it can already be drunk, but for the taste to become more noble, it needs to "mature". Strain the mead again into a clean bottle, close it with a regular cork and put it in a cool place for at least another 3 weeks, or better yet, a month. Both a cellar and a refrigerator are suitable for "maturing". 4. Our homemade mead is ready! The strength of the resulting drink is 8-12%, and its taste is reminiscent of dry white wine. Very tasty!
