The dish will be very tasty and juicy. The main thing is not to overdry the pieces of fish so that they remain soaked in fat.

The best marinade for mackerel is onion, lemon juice, salt and pepper. If you want to add other ingredients to your taste - no problem. Just do not add fresh or dried herbs - they will burn.

Remember that 5-10 minutes is enough to fry the fish. Do not overcook it!

Mackerel (large) - 1 pc.

Onion - 2 pcs.

Lemon juice - 2-3 tbsp.

Salt - 0.5 tsp.

Ground black pepper - 0.25 tsp.

1. Defrost the mackerel at room temperature in advance. Peel and wash the onion.

2. Cut off the head, tail and fins, rip open the belly of the fish and remove the entrails. Clean off the black membrane inside the belly - it is bitter and will spoil the taste of the dish. Rinse the carcass inside and out and cut into portions about 3 cm thick. Place the sliced ​​​​in a deep container.

3. Now you need to marinate the mackerel for shashlik. Cut the peeled onions into circles and place in a container with the fish.

4. Pour in lemon juice, add salt and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly with a little pressure and leave at room temperature for 1 hour to marinate. During this time, stir the sliced ​​​​a few more times for even soaking. 5. Then put the mackerel pieces on skewers alternately with the marinated onion rings.

6. Light the charcoal in the grill. I cooked the mackerel shashlik together with other types of meat and vegetable shashlik, so my hands were busy - there is no photo of the grill with shashlik. But it is best to mix shashlik or marinate more mackerel so that it is not expensive to light the coals only for a few portions of shashlik.

7. Fry the mackerel shashlik on skewers on the grill for about 5-7 minutes, maximum - 10 minutes. This time is quite enough, since the heat will be very high, and even 3 minutes is enough for the mackerel to cook. Focus on the onion: as soon as it and the pieces of fish are very browned - the dish is ready! Serve the mackerel shashlik hot on a plate with fresh herbs, sliced ​​tomatoes, and various sauces.
