Nigiri and gunkan sushi with salmon

A simple recipe for making nigiri sushi and gunkan with salmon.

Do you like sushi, but restaurant sushi is too expensive for you? Make it yourself, with your own hands, and see that it is not only delicious and beautiful, but also quite simple. If you manage to buy a fresh piece of salmon, be sure to cook it and please your family with molded homemade sushi, they are much easier to make than rolls.

To prepare nigiri sushi and gunkan with salmon, prepare the products according to the list. Dry the freshest salmon with a paper towel, cut off the ribs and skin, remove the bones along the back along the fillet.

Round rice - 1 cup

Fresh salmon - 150 g

Rice vinegar - 2 tbsp

Sugar - 1 tbsp

Salt - 0.5 tsp

Nori seaweed - 1 sheet

1. If you can't buy special sushi rice, take round rice, preferably "camolino", it is very good for making homemade sushi.

2. Rinse the rice until the water is clear, put it in a cauldron, fill it with cold water 2.5 cm above the rice. Put the cauldron with rice on high heat. As soon as the water boils, make the lowest heat, cover the cauldron tightly with a lid and cook for 15 minutes. The easiest way is to set a timer on the oven. After a while, turn off the stove, put paper towels between the cauldron and the lid, leave for another 15 minutes.

3. Mix salt, sugar and rice vinegar in a bowl, put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. The mixture should not boil - just heat up so that the sugar and salt dissolve completely.

4. Pour the dressing into the rice, mix well, cover with a wet thick paper towel, leave to cool.

5. Cut the salmon with a sharp knife into thin slices 8-10 cm long.

6. Lightly wet your hands in water, form bars of rice 8-10 cm long and 3-4 cm high.

7. Put a slice of fresh salmon on top.

8. For beauty, you can glue them with a strip of nori seaweed.

9. To prepare gunkan, mold rice bars in the same way, wrap them with a strip of nori seaweed so that 0.5 cm of empty space remains on top, glue the seam with water.

10. Cut the salmon into small cubes, put them on top of the rice. You can season the fish with spicy sauce or soy mayonnaise.

11. The molded nigiri sushi and gunkan with salmon are ready. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi paste and pickled ginger.
